After an extensive information campaign during which NSFAS officials contacted small towns and rural areas, we are pleased to report that by November 30, 2019, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) received a record number of 543,268. year 428,929) to the end date.

As in previous years, a significant number of students are expected to enroll in TVET colleges in January 2020, compared to 160,000 in the previous year for this category of students.

Students previously funded by NSFAS and continuing their studies in 2020 will be funded based on progress-based outcomes to be obtained from the institutions.

We are encouraged that most applications have been submitted via the electronic portal and that only 15,000 applications have been submitted manually. The largest number of applications received comes from the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Gauteng. About 80% of applicants indicated that universities were their first choice.

Financing decisions for 2020 applications have been updated in the profiles of myNSFAS portal. Applicants are advised to check and track their application status updates online. Applicants who do not have myNSFAS portal profiles are invited to register on the website to determine their funding status.

Of the total number of applications received, 69 357 were incomplete or incomplete or incorrect supporting documents.
